Hey everyone. For those MMO addicts out there with nothing to play, I'd like to bring to your attention (if you didn't know already) that Lord of the Rings Online is now free! The game has a reasonably sized community full of helpful people, as well as a variety of classes that, though they resemble standard MMO archetypes, all have their unique twists. For example, instead of the traditional healer class who uses divine power or whatever else you want to call it, LotRO has the Minstrel, who uses his music to heal and buff allies. There is also an interesting take on the standard MMO crafting system where you choose a pre-made set of three crafting abilities of various types (gathering, crafting, etc etc).
Despite being free, a trait that would often speak of a lack of quality in video games, LotRO is a very well-polished game. And hey, since it is free, it's not like you'll lose anything by giving it a try!
How is it in comparison to wow? Less/More different classes of characters? More immersing atmosphere? WoW and EVE are the only ever MMO's I've ever played

never even tried the game....may have to now, thanx
ReplyDeleteAfter playing Maplestory, I've sworn off MMORPGs for life
ReplyDeleteyou told me about this before... too bad my laptop doesn't have the required minimum specs
ReplyDelete@Fruffles: there are 9 classes in total, but only 7 if you choose to play for free. Most of the classes are like those in WoW, you've got tanks, melee DPS, healers, ranged DPS. The Captain is slightly unique: a melee class that's main focus is buffing the group, maybe offtanking as well. I feel that compared to WoW, this game is better in terms of mechanics and interesting quests, but is obviously much worse in terms of playerbase size and content.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about that but never actually played it. I'll make sure to check it out if I have some free time. Following and supporting! :)

ReplyDelete@thedude748: I might actually give this game a try now, because I love world of warcraft and I love world of warcraft even more, lol.
ReplyDeleteI also find it humorous that the ad on the side of this post is advertising for lord of the rings online.
ReplyDeleteIf only I had the time.
ReplyDeleteI've played it before. It's pretty fun. Tom Bombadil is in it too and other characters I imagine. Maybe I'll pick it up again since it's free as soon as I get a better comp.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Followed.
